PRESS RELEASE
8 January 2001
Qvadis and Fictionopolis to Launch Co-Branded Reader, United Nations eBook on Palm
Toronto, ON and New York, NY - 8 January 2001 -
Qvadis, developer of Express Reader, the premier handheld Palm e-text reader
and provider of the leading Palm e-text portal,
and Fictionopolis, a leading online publisher of contemporary fiction,
today announced a range of joint initiatives, including an agreement
to incorporate Qvadis' Reader technology in the soon-to-be-released
Fictionopolis reader. The agreement will introduce Fictionopolis subscribers
to its contemporary fiction and reviews on Palm devices as reading devices,
and makes Fictionopolis the first licensee in Qvadis' Powered by Qvadis
handheld reader initiative.
"Qvadis' Express Reader technology offers users one of the most functional,
easy-to-use e-book readers on any handheld platform," said Sam Peralta, CEO
of Qvadis. "Coupled with our innovative desktop publishing solution,
publishers like Fictionopolis now have an end-to-end solution to bring
e-books to devotees of the printed page."
The first integrated PC/Palm e-book publisher and viewer, Express Reader has
quickly gained in popularity and critical acclaim since its release for its
simple and intuitive, yet powerful, design. Among other accolades, Express Reader
has been featured as a Hot Product at Yahoo! Mobile, and garnered a five-star
and Reviewers' Pick rating on ZDNet. In addition to Express Reader,
the Qvadis website offers an extensive free e-text library, the
Web's most complete links to Palm e-book archives, Palm and Net device news,
as well as the popular e-Book-of-the-Month feature. Recently, Qvadis added
e-publishing to its offerings via its acquisition of leading Palm
e-publisher Editio-Books.com.
"At Fictionopolis, one of our visions is that e-books are a powerful tool
for increasing global literacy," said Fictionopolis founder, Adrian Taylor.
"Qvadis brings a unique understanding of publisher and reader needs to the
technology, which make them an ideal partner in realizing our vision."
In a related initiative, the first publication through the Qvadis-Fictionopolis
program - in cooperation with Rattapallax Press and the
United Nations Society of Writers - will be an anthology e-book of the poetry
and prose featured in the "Dialogue Among Civilizations through Poetry" program.
The anthology will include work from each of the participating international artists,
and will be freely downloadable from the Fictionopolis website
in a variety of popular formats, including Qvadis' format for the Palm platform.
Highlights will include selections by renowned writers Yusef Komunyakaa,
Joyce Carol Oates and James Ragan from the UN headquarters in New York City in March 2001,
200 readings in over 100 cities worldwide, and special readings in international
territories including the 2001 Mallory and Irvine Research Expedition to Mt. Everest,
the Casey Station in Antarctica, a scientific boat in the West Philippine Sea
and possibly the International Space Station.
Fictionopolis will be launching its publishing line at

Express Reader and Qvadis' e-book resources are available from the
