Qvadis and MemoWare Launch E-Book Library for Palm Devices
Toronto, ON and Chapel Hill, NC - 7 May 2000 -
Qvadis Corporation, makers of the award-winning Express Reader e-text software for Palm OS devices,
and MemoWare, providers of the largest collection of free Palm-format documents,
announce the launch of the newly-expanded Qvadis Library.
The redesigned Library now carries over 2,600 freely downloadable titles in the Palm Doc
format, the e-text industry standard for Palm organizers. The site, located at
http://www.qvadis.com/exlibris/library.html,
integrates the original Qvadis library collection with MemoWare's offerings
to form what is currently the largest archive of free Palm e-texts on the Web.
Qvadis provides the technology cornerstone with its popular Palm e-book reader, and has tapped
MemoWare for database and hosting support. Titles range from classic and contemporary works -
for example, Shakespeare's plays, Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness," Henry David Thoreau's "Walden" -
to diagnosis and treatment guidelines for medical practitioners,
to travel information on major world cities for mobile professionals.
All e-books may be read with Qvadis Express Reader GT for Palm, or with Express Reader DX,
the desktop PC viewer and text editor. Express Reader Pro - a GT-DX suite - has gained acclaim
for its simple and intuitive, yet powerful, design. Among other accolades,
it has been featured on the Hot Products list of Yahoo! Mobile and
garnered a five-star and Reviewers' Pick rating on ZDNet;
in a world's first, both Pro and GT simultaneously hit
Lycos' list of Top 10 Weekly Palm Downloads for Docs/Graphics applications.
"Qvadis has a strong vision of the Palm system as a key platform for e-books
and e-document exchange," said Sam Peralta, President and CEO of Qvadis.
"We expect Express Reader and the expanded Qvadis Library to provide the springboard
for a whole new set of invaluable resources for Palm and mobile device users."
"Our goal has always been to help users get the most out of their Palm OS devices,
and to provide the most comprehensive collection of freely downloadable
mobile content anywhere," said Craig Froehle, founder of MemoWare. "Qvadis' enthusiasm
for the mobile platform and the Doc format brings a new vitality to Palm e-books, and
we are pleased to be able to support their initiatives."
The Qvadis Website also provides Palm and e-book news, e-books for purchase from
leading digital publishers, as well as links and reviews of other sites carrying e-books and e-text
tools for Palm devices. International Data Corporation has noted that handheld devices, including
Palm Inc.'s popular device line, are expected to reach nearly 19 million units in
worldwide shipments by 2003.
