Qvadis Releases Alpha Version of E-Text Previewer
Toronto, ON - 13 February 1999 -
Qvadis Corporation today opened for limited release the alpha version
of its desktop previewing utility, Qvadis Express Reader DX.
Able to previews e-texts formatted for either 3Com's Palm line of
connected organizers or palm-sized PCs based on Microsoft's Windows CE
operating system, Express Reader enables browsing of e-texts
prior to handheld loading for mobile applications. A more general
beta release, with added capabilities,
is planned for the second quarter of 1999.
"We're pleased with the response so far," said Dr. Sam Peralta,
President and CEO of Qvadis. "Users who have tried out Express Reader
have told us easy desktop management of handheld e-text files
was something they'd been waiting for for a long time."
E-texts for the Palm and Windows CE handheld platforms
are commonly in the Doc format, a
widely-used open protocol for compressing files so that they fit in the limited
memory capacity of handhelds.
While utilities for compressing and decompressing such files exist for palmtops,
there has been a need for a desktop utility for previewing and editing these files,
before uploading them to the palmtop. Express Reader is the first user-friendly
utility to fill this need.
