Braving the Flames

Braving the Flames
by Peter A. Micheels

Nonfiction e-Book-of-the-Month, October 2001.
Available as an ebook edition for Qvadis Express Reader from Fictionwise, or for your personal library, in a paper edition from Amazon.com.

NEW YORK CITY sees over 250 fires reported every single day, 365 days a year. Now, hear the stories behind the evening news, as New York City's courageous fire fighters tell their stories in their own words...

Peter A. Micheels, a Manhattan resident, is a staff psychologist at Bellevue Hospital. As a writer, his articles on the fire service have appeared in Firehouse magazine and the Daily News; he also served as a script consultant for Peter Berg's Wonderland for the ABC television network. In addition, Mr. Micheels is an honorary Fire Marshall and an honorary Deputy Chief in the Fire Department of New York.

Braving the Flames is the true story of the men whose lives are dedicated to answering the calls for help, night or day. Intense and terrifying, Braving the Flames chronicles the experiences of men who give their blood and sweat to save lives, sometimes at the cost of their own.

On September 11, 2001, several of the men mentioned in this book perished - as did some of their family - in the terrorist attack on New York's World Trade Center. In honor of these men and others who sacrificed much during those days, Fictionwise, publisher ereads and the author designated all proceeds from ebook sales through October 11, 2001 to the Widows and Children's Fund of the Uniformed Firefighters Association.
